Canyonville, Oregon... Ballet Folklorico Ritmo Allegre (Joyful Rhythm) brings three youth to the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation Awards today to perform. Folklorico has been performing and teaching traditional Latino folk dance for thirteen years in the Rogue Valley. They are a member of the Multicultural Association of Southern Oregon and have received $5,000 in this round of Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation giving to provide tuition assistance to youth.

Ballet Folklorico has both adult and youth performers but also works to broaden awareness of Latino folk dance through classes offered to elementary, middle school, and high school youth. According to Folklorico's director, Victoria Snow Mountain, "Frequently the largest hurdle we have is to convince parents that having their children involved in embracing their culture is a very positive thing. This grant will help us reach more young people. I'm very pleased about this."
