COW CREEK UMPQUA INDIAN FOUNDATION NEARS ONE MILLION DOLLARS GIVEN TO EDUCATIONAL ENTITIES IN DOUGLAS COUNTY
Canyonville, Oregon... The grant awards that will be given tomorrow for educational goals in Douglas County will bring the total given by the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation educational entities in Douglas County to just under a million dollars. Over $600,000 has been given to Douglas County Schools, $288,451 has been given to school support groups such as booster clubs, Future Farmers of America, etc., and $95,555 has been given to Umpqua Community College.
The grant awards ceremony on Tuesday, January 9, from 10 AM - noon will be held at the Seven Feathers Convention Center in Canyonville and represents the eighteenth round of giving presented by the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation. Fifty-five organizations from seven southern Oregon counties will be present to accept their awards.
The Mission of the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation is to offer assistance in youth education, to strengthen youth and family, to provide positive youth development, and to add to the quality of life for people in Douglas, Coos, Deschutes, Jackson, Josephine, Klamath, and Lane counties. Since its beginnings, the Foundation has awarded over $7.5 million in grants for the benefit of people in need.
Ballet Folklorico, a member of the Multicultural Association of Southern Oregon and a grant recipient, will perform a short dance midway through the awards ceremony.
The awards ceremony will conclude with the presentation of two awards. The Buss Rondeau award will be given to the City of Sutherlin to assist with the continuation of reading promotion that was necessary in order to find funds fot the new Sutherlin Library. Five-term mayor of Sutherlin, Joe Mongiovi will be on hand to accept the award. Buss Rondeau was a founding member of the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation Board of Directors, a Cow Creek tribal member, and a long-time resident of Sutherlin in his adult years.
The second special award will be the presentation of the Martha Young Award. The first time presentation of this award will be given to Charlene Paramo and the Family Development Center Parent Relief Nursery for its outstanding service to the children of Dougla County. Martha Young was a founding Director of the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation.
Cow Creek Tribal Board philanthropic decisions are not part of foundation giving.
