COW CREEK UMPQUA INDIAN FOUNDATION AWARDS $591,744 IN EIGHTEENTH ROUND OF GIVING
Canyonville, Oregon... At a grant awards ceremony begining at 10 AM at Seven Feathers Convention Center on Tuesday, January 9, the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation will distribute $591,744 to 55 organizations from seven southern Oregon counties.
The Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians has a long tradition of giving back to the communities in which they live and work. In 1997, the Cow Creek Tribe formalized this tradition of philanthropy by establishing the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation.
The Foundation's mission is to offer assistance in youth education, to strengthen youth and family, to provide positive youth development, and to add to the quality of life to the people within the communities in Douglas, Coos, Deschutes, Jackson, Josephine, Klamath, and Lane Counties. Since its beginnings the Foundation has awarded over $7.5 million in grants for the benefit of people in need. Awards are made twice a year. Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation funding is entirely seperate from the philanhropic decisions made by the Cow Creek Tribal Board.
Recipients of the eighteenth round of Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation funding are listed below.
DOUGLAS COUNTY:COOS COUNTY:
- Casa de Belen, $14,630 for nightime security staff
- Days Creek School District #15/Charter School, $3,990 for ten new sewing machines.
- Family Development Center aka Parent Relief Nursery, $20,000 for abuse prevention services in South Douglas County.
- The FISH of Roseburg, $20,000 for a walk in cooler and new equipment for their new facility
- Project Literacy of Douglas County, $16,240 for a computer literary coordinator
- Riddle Educational Center/Public Charter School, $9,500 to enhance student retention
- Wildlife Safari, $20,000 for playground structures
- Senior Volunteer Foundation of Douglas County, $5,000 For volunteer support
- St. Joseph's Community Kitchen, $7,500 for meals
- City of Sutherlin, $20.000 to fund a new childrens library
- Umpqua Community Action Network Chess Program, $10,000 for playground equipment at mariposa Villa
- Umpqua Community Action Network Transition Program, $15,000 for Confidence Clinic
- Umpqua Valley Arts Association, $7,500 for the Arts Integration Program
- Winston Middle School, $9,500 for new wrestling mats.
JACKSON COUNTY:
- Alternative Youth Activities, $19,763 for energy efficiencies in school buildings
- Bob Belloni Rach, $20,000 for a 15 passenger van
- Lab Band Program Association, $11,742 for portable risers
- Southwestern Community Action Committee/Head Start, $15,000 to purchase a new school bus
- Powers Rural Health District, $5,000 for a medical assistant
JOSEPHINE COUNTY:
- Jefferson Nature Center, $11,000 for natural history programming for Title 1 schools
- Science Works Hands-On Museum, $14,463 for outreach to the Boys & Girls Club of Rouge Valley and the Wolf Creek Teen Center
- Be One For Kids, $5,000 to support Project Alert
- Central Point Parks and Recreation Foundation, $12,000 to provide scholarship and program funds for the Discovery After School Club.
- Girl Scouts of Winema Council, Inc., to support the Connections program for low income girls
- Southern Oregon Humane Society, $6,730 for LEAP program for youth at risk
- Roots and Wings Child Development, $9,400 for scholarships
- The ARC of Jackson County, $11,500 for the creation of two videos
- Consumer Credit Couciling of Southern Oregon, Inc., $10,000 for money management services tolow income older persons and persons with disabilities
- The Job Council to purchase 6.25 hors per week of drug and alcohol treatment/counciling for the Youth Build Program
- St. Vincent DePaul, $10,000 for furnishings at the new Emergency Family Shelter
- Trinity Respite Center, $11,500 for tuition assistance for the senior dementia patients
- The Multicultural Association of Southern Oregon, $5,000 for Dancing for Our Dreams
- Ashland Independent Film Festival, $10,000 for a youth film festival
- Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon, $5,000 for scholarships
LANE COUNTY:
- Grants Pass High School Foundation, Inc., College Dreams, $10,000 for basic and special awards.
- Grants Pass Family YMCA, $5,000 for scholarships and to structure summer drop-in activities
- Thr Inn Between, $20,000 to support Homeless Youth Outreach Program in rural areas
- Family Friends, $10,000 for parenting education
- Lovejoy Hospice, Inc., $5,000 for pediatric hospice services
- Options of Southern Oregon, $9,000 for Children's Resource Team
KLAMATH COUNTY:
- Assistance League of Eugene, $19,000 for Operations School Bell
- Crest Drive Elementary School, $1,950 for the Crest Drive Watershed Curriculum
- Eugene Concert Choir, $5,000 For Singing a masterwork project
- Parent partnership, $6,500 for the PRIDE afterschool program
- HIV Alliance, $5,500 for youth outreach
- Volunteers in Medicine Clinic, $10,000 to support mental health services for 375 low income, uninsured per month
- The Science Factory, $10,000 for the connecting Children to Science Project
- Willamette Resources and Educational Network (WREN), $10,350 for teacher training
