COW CREEK UMPQUA INDIAN FOUNDATION AND THE COW CREEK BAND OF THE UMPQUA TRIBE OF INDIANS ANNOUNCE JANUARY 2006 GRANT RECIPIENTS
The Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation and the Cow Creek Band of the Umpqua Tribe of Indians distributed $529,608 in their spring cycle of philanthropic giving. Forty-nine charitable organizations were on hand to meet the members of the Foundation Board of Directors and receive their grants from the Foundation at a ceremony held at the Seven Feathers Hotel and Resort Conference Cent in Canyonville on January 23, 2006.
This marked the sixteenth round of grants awarded by the Foundation, which was established in October of 1997 by the Cow Creek Band of the Umpqua Tribe of Indians.
Since the Foundation’s inception 571 grants totaling $6,283,605 has been given.
The mission of the Foundation is to offer assistance in youth education, strengthening youth and family, provide positive youth development and add to the quality of life for people residing in Douglas, Jackson, Josephine, Klamath, Deschutes, Lane and Coos Counties.
The Grant Awards Ceremony culminated in a special presentation by Mrs. Buster Rondeau of the annual Buss Rondeau Award. The award was presented to the Family Development Center for strengthening families and preventing child abuse in Douglas County.
This award is presented annually in memory of Buss Rondeau, a founding member of the Foundation Board of Directors and long standing tribal board member.

- Douglas Education Service District: $12,965 for the development of a training curriculum.
- Fullerton IV Elementary school: $15,000 to support the Step up to Writing program.
- Sutherlin High FFA: $12,395 for FFA program materials.
- Family Development Center: $20,000 for abuse prevention services in south Douglas County.
- Cobb Street Children’s Learning Center: $15,000 to remodel kitchen.
- Battered Persons Advocacy: $13,763 for emergency services program.
- ARC of Douglas County: $10,800 for respite care through the Lifespan program.
- Douglas Resident Training Facility: $10,000 to replace flooring in residential group home.
- Glide Community Club: $5,000 for equipment purchase.
- St. Joseph’s Community Kitchen: $5,000 for support cost of providing meals.
- Umpqua Community Health Center: $20,000 for medical services for low income.
- Umpqua Discovery Center Treasure Chest Inc.: $8,000 for natural history exhibit.
- Umpqua Homes for the Handicapped: $9,720 to purchase new furnishings for homes.
- Oregon Symphony Association: $15,000 for Community Music Partnership in Coos Bay schools.
- Coos Elderly Services: $12,000 for revolving loan fund for senior housing.
- E.A.T. Inc.: $3,500 for hot meal program.
- Waterfall Clinic: $18,240 for school based health center expansion.

- Communiversity: $11,855 for William Elementary School playground equipment.
- The Dome School: $5,350 for playground equipment.
- Grants Pass High School Foundation Inc.: $10,000 for College Dreams project.
- Illinois Valley Family Coalition: $10,000 for teen work project.
- Oregon Stewardship: $2,000 for ecosystem development project.
- Coalition for Kids Inc.: $10,000 for all day childcare for Head Start.
- Oregon Parent Center: $10,000 for preschool program.
- Umpqua Community Action Network: $10,000 for food bank services in Josephine County.
- Women’s Crisis Support Team: $14,230 for advocate services and parent skills training.
- Kids Imagination Discovery Space: $10,375 for art center and classroom equipment.
- Community Health Center Inc.: $10,000 for student health centers in Butte Falls and Prospect.
- Kids Unlimited of Oregon: $10,000 to support McLoughlin Middle School mentoring program.
- Medford School District 549C: $5,000 for Project Dove.
- Mediation Works: $10,000 for family mediation project.
- Prospect School District: $15,000 for playground equipment.
- Providence Community Health Foundation: $15,000 for Jackson Elementary health center.
- Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon: $5,000 for scholarships.
- Southern Oregon Public Television: $20,000 for the Target Meth campaign.
- Upper Rogue Community Center: $4,725.
- Edwin Brown Alternative High School: $2,725 for outdoor learning program.
- Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Oregon: $10,000 for teen theater project.
- J Bar J Youth Services: $5,000 for Big Brother Big Sister program.
- Mountain Star Family Relief Nursery: $7,500 for outreach services.
- The Bethlehem Inn: $5,000 for homeless family support services.
- Klamath Youth Development Center Partners for Change: $10,815 for early childhood brain development training.
- Springfield School District: $20,000 for home based preschool program for English as a Second Language families.
- Wellsprings Friends School: $10,000 for school van purchase.
- Committed Partners for Youth: $10,000 for mentor program.
- Siuslaw Area Women’s Center: $18,750 for police liaison services.
- Food For Lane County: $15,000 for the community gardens project.
- Volunteers in Medicine: $10,000 for diabetic management program.
- Oregon Council for Hispanic Advancement: $10,000 for Oregon Leadership Institute.
