COW CREEK UMPQUA INDIAN FOUNDATION AND THE COW CREEK BAND OF THE UMPQUA TRIBE OF INDIANS ANNOUNCE JULY 2005 GRANT RECIPIENTS

The Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation and the Cow Creek Band of the Umpqua Tribe of Indians distributed $536,595 in their spring cycle of philanthropic giving. Fifty-six charitable organizations were on hand to meet the members of the Foundation Board of Directors and receive their grants from the Foundation at a ceremony held at Seven Feather Hotel and Resort Conference Center in Canyonville on July 7, 2005.
This marked the fifteenth and largest round of grants awarded by the Foundation, which was established in October of 1997 by the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians.
The mission of the Foundation is to offer assistance in youth education, strengthening youth and family, provide positive youth development and add to the quality of life for people residing in Douglas, Jackson, Josephine, Klamath, Deschutes, Lane and Coos Counties.
The Grant Awards Ceremony culminated in a special presentation by Mrs. Buster Rondeau of the annual Buss Rondeau Award. The award was presented to the Sutherlin Booster Club for fostering community spirit in support of the students in the Sutherlin School District.
The award is presented annually in memory of Buss Rondeau, a founding member of the Foundation Board of Directors and long standing tribal board member.

- Eastwood Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization: $2,500 to upgrade computers.
- Sunnyslope Elementary School: $12,000 to purchase playground equipment.
- Sutherlin Booster Club: $10,000 to replace ageing wood bleachers at high school with wheelchair accessible steel bleachers.
- Oakland Elementary School: $9,050 for purchase of alpha smart word processors.
- Oakland School District: $6,050 to replace convection oven in cafeteria.
- Winchester Elementary School: $3,300 for guest artist program.
- Riddle Junior High School: $4,500 for book purchases.
- Coffenberry Middle School: $13,000 for purchase of computers.
- Yoncalla Elementary School: $10,467 for school beautification project materials.
- Reedsport Educational Enrichment Foundation: $4,959 for purchase of art equipment for Reedsport Junior/Senior High School.
- Braves Parent Organization: $11,000 for new lockers for Junior High School.
- Umpqua Valley Disabilities Network: $6,000 for Kids on the Block puppet project.
- Power Public Schools: $19,880 to renovate play shed facility.
- Applegate Heritage Arts Education: $4,945 for summer camp.
- Boys and Girls Club of the Umpqua Valley: $10,000 t renovate facility.
- Myrtle Creek United Methodist Church: $5,000 for Safe Place for Kinds after school childcare.
- Umpqua Community College: $10,000 for child care scholarships for low-income student families.
- Southwestern Oregon Community Action Committee: $15,000 for Great Afternoons child care program.
- CASA of Douglas County: $20,000 for volunteer recruitment, training and retention.
- Douglas CARES: $15,000 for victim advocate support costs.
- Umpqua Community Development Corporation: $15,000 for handicapped accessibly laundry room for housing development.
- St. Francis Community Kitchen: $8,000 for hot meals program.
- Charleston Food Bank: $7,659 for food bank program.
- Southwestern Oregon Community Action Center: food bank program.
- Umpqua Valley Arts Association: $7,500 for Artist in Education Program.
- Little Theater on the Bay: $9,000 to replace emergency exists in theater.
KLAMATH, DESCHUTES, LANE COUNTIES:
- Rogue Valley SMART Program: $5,000 for book purchases.
- Southern Oregon Education Services District: $2,398 to purchase assisted technology devises to teach Braille.
- Science Works Museum: $5,000 for transportation for students.
- SOU Native American Studies Program: $5,000 for Konoway Nika Tillicum summer youth camp.
- Lincoln Elementary School: $6,628 for playground canopy construction.
- Siskiyou Field Institute: $3,000 for outreach for natural science programs.
- Boys and Girls Clubs Rogue Valley: $15,000 for Talent youth club.
- Rogue Valley Community Development Corporation: $10,000 for youth construction program.
- Sunny Wolf Youth Services: $20,000 for teen center.
- Grants Pass Family YMCA: $7,500 for youth scholarships.
- CASA of Jackson County: $20,000 for volunteer recruitment and supervision.
- Siskiyou Community Health Center: $20,000 for exam room in new facility.
- WinterSpring: $12,000 for suicide prevention program.
- St. Vincent de Paul: $15,000 for capital construction of thrift store.
- Oregon Conservatory of Performing Arts: $6,900 for scholarships for theater camp for youth.
- Rogue Gallery and Art Center: $6,000 for teen artist mentoring program.
- Integral Youth Services: $9,249 for commercial kitchen for youth program.
- Deschutes County Healthy Beginnings: $3,400 for developmental screenings for birth to five year olds.
- Volunteers in Medicine: $11,350 for diabetic wellness program.
- Bend’s Community Center: $8,500 for hot meals program.
- Center for Community Counseling: $16,000 for anger management classes.
- Jasper Mountain: $2,374 for supplies for photo therapy groups.
- Sacred Heart Medical Center: $20,000 for dental services for low-income children.
- Neighborhood Economic Development Corporation: $12,000 for home ownership classes.
- Huerta de la Familia: $5,000 for garden and nutrition classes.
- Women Space: $10,000 for youth counseling program.
- Pearl Buck Center: $10,000 for preschool food program.
