COW CREEK UMPQUA INDIAN FOUNDATION AND THE COW CREEK BAND OF THE UMPQUA TRIBE OF INDIANS ANNOUNCE JANUARY 2005 GRANT RECIPIENTS
The Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation and the Cow Creek Band of the Umpqua Tribe of Indians distributed $451,765 in their winter cycle of philanthropic giving. Forty-one charitable organizations were on hand to meet the members of the Foundation Board of Directors and receive their grants from the Foundation at a ceremony held at the Seven Feathers Hotel and Resort Conference Center in Canyonville on January 10.
This marked the fourteenth round of grants awarded by the Foundation, which was established in October of 1997 by the Cow Creek Band of the Umpqua Tribe of Indians. Since the Foundation’s inception 466 grants totaling $5,122,299 have been given. The mission of the Foundation is to offer assistance in youth education, strengthening youth and family, provide positive youth development and add to the quality of life for people residing in Douglas, Jackson, Josephine, Klamath, Deschutes, Lane and Coos Counties.
The Grant Awards Ceremony culminated in a special presentation by Mrs. Buster Rondeau of the annual Buss Rondeau Award. The award was presented to the Grants Pass High School Foundation for their commitment to increasing high school retention through the College Dreams Program. The award is presented annually in memory of Buss Rondeau, a founding member of the Foundation Board of Directors and long standing tribal board member.
The recipients of this round of Foundation funding include:
DOUGLAS AND COOS COUNTY:
- Days Creek School District $6,040 for physical education equipment,
- Douglas Education Services District $10,000 for parent classes with the Oregon Technology Access Program,
- Oregon Symphony Association $15,000 for the Community Music Partnership project in Coos County schools,
- Camp Millenium$10,000 for camper scholarships,
- Douglas County Juvenile Department $20,000 for coordination of client data materials,
- Sutherlin Community Resource Center $10,000 for after school and summer youth programs,
- Southwestern Oregon Community Action CASA $10,000 for volunteer coordination,
- UCAN Family Connections $19,487 for infant and toddler child care recruitment,
- Douglas County AIDS Council $12,000 for HIV counseling for women and teens,
- the FISH of Roseburg $15,000 for the emergency services fund,
- The Volunteer Foundation of Douglas County $15,000 to support Senior Volunteer Services programs,
- St. Joseph’s Community Kitchen $5,000 to support the meals program for low income,
- Douglas Resident Training Facility $8,000 to replace appliances in group homes,
- Greater Douglas United Way $11,870 to purchase and install new heating system.
JOSEPHINE, JACKSON COUNTIES:
- Grant Pass High School Foundation $12,500 for high school retention through the College Dreams program,
- SPARC Enterprises $20,000 for equipment for employment training program,
- Grants Pass Rotary Club $16,000 for children’s playground equipment for new park,
- Medford School District $10,000 to support Project Dove,
- Jefferson Nature Center $8,670 to provide science education to area schools,
- Jackson County School District 6 $7,000 for capital improvements for alternative school,
- Community Works Inc. $15,000 to support transitional living program for teens,
- the Job Council $3,500 for transportation for youth crew,
- Jackson County Child Abuse Task Force $10,190 for child abuse prevention support,
- Arts Council of Southern Oregon $6,400 to support artist in residency program for schools,
- Center for NonProfit Legal Services $10,400 for Hispanic youth education program,
- OnTrack Inc. $17,312 for outreach to pregnant women.
KLAMATH, DESCHUTES, LANE COUNTIES:
- Friends of the Children Klamath County $15,500 for mentoring program,
- Klamath County Food Bank $10,000 for refrigerated truck purchase,
- Mountain View High FFA $10,000 for purchase of activities bus,
- Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Oregon $10,000 for after school youth program,
- Sisters Organization for Activities and Recreation $10,000 for outdoor fitness and science programs for youth,
- Working Wonders Children’s Museum $20,000 for family scholarships,
- Central Oregon Battering and Rape Alliance $15,000 for children’s services,
- Planned Parenthood $5,546 for parent information kits,
- World Wheelchair Sports $7,000 to purchase adaptive track and field equipment,
- Boys and Girls Clubs of Lane County $8,000 for summer day camp in Florence,
- Babe Ruth Baseball Association $20,000 for paving costs for youth sports complex,
- Cascade Foothills Library for youth library programs,
- Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation $7,500 for mobile health screening visits.
