COW CREEK UMPQUA INDIAN FOUNDATION AND THE COW CREEK BAND OF THE UMPQUA TRIBE OF INDIANS ANNOUNCE JANUARY 2003 GRANT RECIPIENTS
The Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation and the Cow Creek Band of the Umpqua Tribe of Indians distributed $398,922 in their autumn cycle of philanthropic giving. Thirty seven charitable organizations were on hand to meet the members of the Foundation Board of Directors and receive their grants from the Foundation at a ceremony held at the Seven Feathers Hotel and Resort Conference Center in Canyonville on January 22.
This marked the tenth round of grants awarded by the Foundation, which was established in October of 1997 by the Cow Creek Band of the Umpqua Tribe of Indians. Since the Foundation's inception 298 grants totaling 3,278,678 have been given. The mission of the Foundation is to offer assistance in youth education, strengthening youth and family, provide positive youth development and add to the quality of life for people residing in Douglas, Jackson, Josephine, Klamath, Deschutes, Lane and Coos Counties.
The recipients of this round of Foundation funding include:
DOUGLAS AND COOS COUNTY:
JACKSON AND JOSEPHINE COUNTY:
- Winston Dillard School District $10,000 to purchase material for the Tenmile Field Renovation project;
- Highland Elementary School $16,379 to purchase playground equipment;
- Days Creek School District $6,000 for technology;
- Douglas Education Services District $10,000 to purchase assistive technology equipment for the Oregon Technology Access Program loan library;
- Applegate House Heritage Arts and Education $4,400 to support the historical summer day camp curriculum;
- Options Counseling Service $10,000 to support service in south Douglas County schools; Reedsport Activity Park $20,000 to support construction of a skate park;
- Sutherlin Community Resource Center $ 10,000 to support the after school and summer program for youth;
- Family Development Center $20,000 to provide services to south Douglas County;
- Southwestern Oregon Community Action Committee $19,615 to support the CASA volunteer coordination project;
- Umpqua Community Health Center $20,000 for health care for low income families;
- Douglas Resident Training Facility $5,000 to replace group home floor,
- FISH of Roseburg $9,000 to provide emergency assistance;
- Telequa Community Center, $2,500 to purchase library books;
- UCAN Family Connections $15,000 to support the WarmLine resource and referral;
- UCAN Housing and Emergency Services $8,000 to support the Second Chance Renter's project.
LANE, DESCHUTES AND KLAMATH COUNTY:
- Arts Council of Southern Oregon $5,000 for artist in residency project;
- Medford School District $15,000 to support Project Dove;
- Mediation Works $4,325 for anti-bullying school training sessions;
- Illinois Valley High School $12,900 for lab equipment;
- Southern Oregon Education Services District $9,483 to support the Shared Reading Project; Southern Oregon Humane Society $3,500 for youth education project;
- Oregon Parent Center $20,000 for Wolf Creek Teen Center,
- Easter Seals of Oregon $10,000 for after school program;
- WinterSpring $11,575 for grief services to families;
- Consumer Credit Counseling $3,710 for money management training,
- Chieftain Field of Dreams $3,000 to complete handicapped access area;
- Pathways to Care Network $4,600 to support the Maternity Case Management Program.

- Birth to Three $5,500 for rural parenting training;
- Klamath-Lake County Food Bank $20,000 for warehouse purchase;
- Oregon Law Center $7,935 for telephone service to Klamath Falls;
- Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation $7,500 for expansion of mobile screening until program.
