Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation Announces
Recipient of Buss Rondeau Award
The Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation and the Cow Creek Band of the Umpqua Tribe of Indians distributed $554,524 in their spring 2002 cycle of philanthropic giving. Forty three charitable organizations were on hand to meet the members of the Foundation Board of Directors and receive their grants from the Foundation at a ceremony held at the Seven Feathers Hotel and Resort Conference Center on June 20.
The Awards Ceremony culminated with a special presentation by Mrs. Wallace "Buster" Rondeau. The third annual Buss Rondeau Award was presented to the Sugarloaf Community Association for their resourcefulness and innovation in providing educational programs to the students in Williams, Oregon. Through partnerships with the school district and the surrounding community, the Sugarloaf Community Association provides classroom instruction for children from second grade through eighth grade.
The Buss Rondeau Award was established by the Foundation Board of Directors in 2000 to honor the memory of Buster Rondeau, a long standing tribal board member and founding member of the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation.
"Support for youth education was very dear to Buster’s heart," said Sue Shaffer, Tribal Chairman. "Buster felt that strengthening the family and providing opportunity for education were the keys to personal success."
