Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation Celebrates 10th Anniversary ---
Awards $433,223 in Twenty-First Round of Giving
Canyonville, Oregon ........ The Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation will award $433,223 to 54 organizations* from seven counties in Southern Oregon at a grant awards ceremony at Seven Feathers Convention Center on Tuesday, June 17, at 10 a.m.
The Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians has a long tradition of giving back to communities where they live and work. In 1997, the Cow Creek Tribe formalized this tradition of philanthropy by establishing the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation.
The awards ceremony on June 17 is particularly notable as it is also the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation’s 10th Anniversary. In those ten years, the Foundation has funded 815 grants totaling $8,797,146.** According to Cow Creek Umpqua Tribe of Indians Chairman Sue Shaffer, "The Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation giving continues to mirror the priorities of our ancestors by sharing what we have, in order to build strong communities and healthy families."
Carma Mornarich, Executive Director for the Foundation, comments, "The Foundation’s giving has been impressive, surely. But it’s important to mention some specifics as well. For instance, in ten years, the Foundation has installed 47 playgrounds and 38 different types of kitchen/food preparation facilities."
The Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation’s mission is to offer assistance in youth education, to strengthen youth and family, to provide positive youth development, and to add to the Quality of life for people in Douglas, Coos, Deschutes, Jackson, Josephine, Klamath, and Lane counties. Awards are made semi-annually.
