Roseburg, Oregon - Martha Young, the founding Executive Director of the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation (CCUIF), was passionate about services to children and families. After she passed away, the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation Board decided to present the Martha Young Award to an organization they believed would be favored by Marty

The Board of the CCUIF decided Saving Grace in Bend, with its request for playground equipment and respite care toys, exemplified Marty Young’s ideals. Saving Grace, whose vision is life without violence, is a domestic violence shelter for children and families in Deschutes County.

According to CCUIF Board Chair Sue Shaffer, “No one was more committed to serving children and their families than Marty. It’s the CCUIF Board’s intent to make sure Marty’s vision continues.”

The presentation of a plaque to Saving Grace will take place during the CCUIF Grant Awards ceremony at Seven Feathers Convention Center on Thursday, January 22, at 10 a.m.

Earlier recipients of the Martha Young Award are the Family Development Center Parent Relief Nursery located in Douglas County, the Deschutes Children’s Foundation in Deschutes County, and LEAD (Leadership, Education, Adventure, Direction) from Lane County.
