Roseburg, Oregon - The Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation (CCUIF) named Sutherlin-Oakland Food Pantry the Buss Rondeau Award recipient for this round of giving. The food pantry was awarded $4,000 for the purchase of bread at a reduced price for the upcoming year.

Buss Rondeau, who passed away in 2000, was a founding member of the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation as well as a member of the Cow Creek Tribal Board. Since his death, the Buss Rondeau Award has been given by the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation Board of Directors to an organization whose goals “…closely adhere to the spirit of Buster Rondeau.”

“Buster felt that providing opportunities for education were the keys to personal success,” said Sue Shaffer, Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation Board Chair.

Carma Mornarich, Executive Director of the CCUIF, added, “No one can achieve anything or take advantage of opportunity on an empty stomach. Buster would be in absolute agreement with the goals of the Sutherlin-Oakland Food Pantry.”

The Buss Rondeau Award plaque honoring the Sutherlin-Oakland Food Pantry will be presented at the CCUIF Grant Awards Ceremony held at Seven Feathers Convention Center in Canyonville on Thursday, January 22, at 10 a.m.

arlier recipients of the Buss Rondeau award include the Grants Pass High School Foundation for College Dreams, the City of Sutherlin for the children’s library, the Sutherlin Booster Club, the Sugarloaf Community Association, the Oregon Children’s Foundation SMART Reader Program, and the Winston Area Community Partnership.
