Canyonville, Oregon - The Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation (CCUIF) will award $353,114 to 48 organizations from Seven Southern Oregon counties at a grant awards ceremony at 10 a.m. at Seven Feathers Convention Center on Thursday, January 22.

The Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians has a long tradition of giving back to communities where the Tribe lives and works. In 1997, the Cow Creek Tribe formalized this philanthropic tradition by establishing the CCUIF.

According to Foundation Executive Director, Carma Mornarich, “We have continued, as in the past two rounds of giving, to focus on hunger. Ten of the 48 grants awarded are to groups making sure people have sufficient food. The Board also decided to grant two organizations that serve U.S. Veterans. Both are located in Jackson County.”

The Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation’s mission is to offer assistance in youth education, to strengthen youth and family, to provide positive youth development, and to add to the quality of life for people in Douglas, Coos, Deschutes, Jackson, Josephine, Klamath, and Lane Counties. Since its beginning eleven years ago, the Foundation has awarded $9,150,260 in grants to non-profit organizations. Awards are semi-annual, in January and June.

The 48 grants awarded to non-profit organizations in the seven county area include: Douglas County received ten grant awards totaling $89,129; Coos County received four grant awards totaling $28,190; Deschutes County received six grant awards totaling $48, 500; Jackson County received eight grant awards totaling $54,000; Josephine County received eight grant awards totaling $51,795; Klamath County received two grant awards totaling $15,000; Lane County received six grant awards totaling $41,500, and four multi-county grant awards received a total of $25,000.

Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation decisions are separate from the philanthropic decisions made by the Cow Creek Tribal Board.
