at the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation

The Foundation uses this page to post the most recent press releases, and to announce new deadlines, changes in guidelines or priorities, milestones, and other items visitors may find interesting and useful.

The Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation board of directors has voted to reserve a percentage of funds during each grant round, The intent is to reserve funds, allowing the Foundation to save enough for an occasional substantive award for special projects. In order to do this, the Board has designated the maximum grant amount to be $15,000. The board continues to maintain its priority of funding youth education and strengthening youth and family. Look for additional information on this topic in 2009.

Carma Mornarich has been hired as the Executive Director of the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation. A member of the CCUIF board since 2001, Carma understands and has great pride for the work of the Foundation. She is also a board member for the Lilja Family Fund through the Oregon Community Foundation. Carma has a BS from Oklahoma State University and a MA in Teaching from Oregon State University. Carma is an educator, philanthropist, mother of three, and her roots run deep within the community.

Lois Schlegel has been contracted to serve as a program officer for the Spring 2008 application period. Lois has spent over fifteen years in direct social service as a parent educator, advocate, volunteer coordinator, case manager and supervisor. She has served on a variety of nonprofit boards and been involved in grant writing and fund development. Her business background includes marketing, property and office management and real estate investment. She holds a BS in Psychology from Southern Oregon University and an MFA in Creative Writing from Antioch University.

Kathie Olsen, who served as Interim Executive Director for the Foundation continues to serve as a contracted program officer. Kathie brings to the foundation decades of experience in the nonprofit world, as a board member, an executive director, facilitator, trainer, and fund raiser. She holds a BA in Anthropology from the University of California at Santa Cruz, is a trained mediator, and has completed hundreds of hours of training in nonprofit governance.
