June 24, 2010 - Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation Awards $451,949 to 51 Non-Profits
Canyonville, Oregon……….Giving to community is nothing new to the Cow Creek Tribe. The Tribe formalized this long time tradition in 1997 by establishing the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation (CCUIF). On Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at 10 a.m., at Seven Feathers Convention Center in Canyonville, the CCUIF will award $451,949 to 51 non-profits from seven counties in southwestern Oregon.According to Foundation Executive Director, Carma Mornarich, "All aspects of the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation's mission statement are covered in this round of giving…by awarding grants to youth, to education, and to family. We are delighted with the efforts of the 51 organizations that were awarded grants. They all represent real vision, real work, and real progress for the seven counties the Foundation receives requests from."
The mission of the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation is to offer assistance in youth education, to strengthen youth and family, to provide positive youth development, and to add to the quality of life for people in Coos, Deschutes, Douglas, Jackson, Josephine, Klamath, and Lane Counties. Since its beginning in 1997, the CCUIF has awarded $10,402,041 in grants to non-profit organizations. Awards are made semi-annually, in January and June. In January of 2010, the CCUIF awarded $417,462 to 49 different non-profits in the seven county area.
The 51 grants awarded next Tuesday for this round of giving include: three grants in Coos County will receive $33,000, four grants in Deschutes County will receive $25,000, ten grants in Douglas County will receive $89,750; seven grants in Jackson County will receive $67,500; eight grants in Josephine County will receive $77,230; five grants in Klamath County will receive $39,900, nine grants in Lane County will receive $81,569, and five grants that serve multi-county needs will receive $38,000.
Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation award decisions are in addition to the philanthropic decisions made by the Cow Creek Tribal Board.
